Local Nursing Student Teaches Parents How to Save Lives

Apr. 3, 2019 (Cedar City, Utah): Michael Lamoureux is a local family man and nursing student that wanted to be a certified CPR instructor with the American Heart Association in order to teach parents lifesaving skills for emergencies. As an instructor, Mike held a few classes for parents that taught basic first aid and CPR. Ultimately he wanted to teach more parents, so he made a YouTube video explaining the lifesaving knowledge and skills that can be shared with anybody.
Mike was motivated to teach other parents CPR because his cousin’s baby had been saved by a family member who knew infant CPR. When the baby was brought to her lifeless, she knew exactly what to do to get the baby breathing again until the ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital. That baby was saved because she recognized what was wrong and knew what to do. It is Mike’s hope that the CPR video and classes are able to help at least one parent know what to do if they are in an emergency situation.
Michael is a student at Southern Utah University. SUU has instituted a program to set their graduates apart by helping them gain experiential learning. Students at SUU design a “multi-semester out-of-the-classroom project that will support their long-term personal or professional plans.” This program is called the EDGE program, which stands for “experiential learning designed to give experience.” Ideally these projects transform the students who complete them into skilled graduates and professionals that are able to meet the demands of their careers.
